A few months ago, I started a blog. Initially, I wasn’t aware of the stuff that I would need to get traffic on it. I knew that I would have to do work on SEO the most to rank the blog on the first page. And following that goal, I started reading on how to increase website traffic, how to start a new blog, how to get more reach on the website?
Domain Authority: Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). It is calculated by evaluating multiple factors, including linking root domains and the number of total links, into a single DA score. (Moz)
Following the fact that I will need to increase my DA to rank my blog, I started working on improving my DA. At the beginning of my journey, I faced so many failures. To be very honest, I made 100s of mistakes also. Eventually, I understood that I would need to plan it very strategically rather than just playing it blindly.
I targetted to achieve DA of 10 in the first month, then DA of 20 in the second month, and then DA of 25 in the third month. And after the end of the third month, I saw that I achieved my target. The domain authority of my website was 26 on the 90th day. (Or say, higher than planned :D)
I don’t want to use the benefit all alone. So I decided to share it with others that what was my planning, and what were the precautions that I took in my journey.
Target #1: Achieve DA of 10 in The First Month
The journey was quite tough, and I was not sure that I would be successful or not. But for sure, with my journey, you can understand what you shouldn’t do for your website. And also, where you should focus the most.
My website was actually about Digital Marketing and related stuff. So, I planned to start with just adding a few detailed and organic content in it. After adding four blogs in the first six days, I began seeing visitors on my website. I kept in mind to maintain my blog length and structure as the best possible. (Content-length at least; 2000 words)
Although they were just three to four a day, I still saw growth. And on the seventh day of my first week, I started with Quora answering. The goal was to generate backlinks and getting referral traffic from there. I made a spreadsheet of each question that I answer with its rank. (#I prefer, answer at least 5–8 Quora answers a day.)
I knew that my content was good, also without the link juice, it will be impossible for me to get traffic. So, for the second week, I planned to get backlinks as much as I can.
I focused on blog commenting, and there are few rules that one should follow to not your comment spammed. Like I never commented just to get a backlink, I tried to keep my comments natural.
The efforts were showing me the results. On the second day of the second week, my DA updated to 2. I was lucky as one of the blogs in which I commented added backlink to my blog. It helped me in getting my first do-follow link.
I continued with my strategy for the whole week. And also, I added two more blog posts.
To be honest, this week was very fruitful to me. I planned the week earlier to begin with the guest posting. So, on the first day, I mailed three blog websites with authoritative DA to allow me guest post on their website.
In the mail, I added my blog idea and the structure that I was planning to write.
In the third week, I posted two blog posts and mailed 12 blog websites for guest blogging. Also, I did 50 Quora answers that week, and it made my total Quora answer almost 100.
Before beginning the fourth week, when I checked my DA, it was updated to five. It must be because I have earned a lot of do-follow backlinks on my blogs. Also, Quora answers helped a lot in generating no-follow links.
Now for the last week of my month, I checked that I got replies from 10 guest posting requests. They all agreed to it, so I planned to invest my whole week in writing their guest post, writing blogs for my website, & Quora answering.
By the end of the week, I posted two blogs on my website, submitted all the guest posts, and did 50 more Quora answers. And as for the result, my DA was 8 by the end of the month.
Conclusion Month #1
I know that I wasn’t able to complete my goal as I planned. However, I was aware that I can still try to push it the next month.
Points You Can Learn From My First Month
- Do Quora answers regularly and maintain the sheet.
- Don’t be spammy while commenting on blogs.
- Never forget to update content regularly on your website.
- While guest posting, remember to maintain good content quality.
- Domain Authority may jump up suddenly in a week. So, Be patient.
Target #2: Achieve DA of 15 in The Second Month
I knew that I was able to achieve my target last month. So, for this month, I wanted both; cover the previous month’s goal with this month’s as well.
The guest posts that I have written scheduled to get posted this month. I was sure that they would help me a lot in getting my plan rightly into the path.
This week started my approach differently. Rather than just posting web content, managing Quora answering, blog commenting, & guest posting, I switched to social bookmarking websites as well.
One thing that I saw people doing while getting backlinks from these websites is that they use them just to get links.
I was aware of the fact that I won’t get anything from them if I don’t work strategically. So, I created an account on those websites, and rather than using them for social bookmarking; I was using them for being an active user also.
Although, I bookmarked all of my links in those platforms. But also, I was made many posts and bookmarking for other websites as well.
So, that week, the task performed was: 50 Quora Answering, 10 Guest Posting Requests, 3 Blogs Added on my website, 14 Blog Commenting, & 5 SBM of my blogs on each website excluding 20 of other blogs of other websites.
Once you start getting the visibility, it gets easier to grow. You start getting to more opportunities and ideas. I believe that creating a secure link building and quality content base should be the focus when you start working on SEO.
As I was working on Social Bookmarking a lot, it started giving me visibility more on their platforms.
So, as half of the week passed, I saw that I am getting backlinks from other websites. It was a bit strange for me as those websites were unknown to me. And when analyzed those backlinks, I found that they were because many bloggers have paraphrased content from the sites where I posted guest posts. So, to keep the genuineness of the blog, they didn’t remove backlinks while paraphrasing.
It was quite a lesson.
After that, I started to work most of my time on creating quality content. By that time, I got many connections that were allowing me to guest post monthly on their website. The real benefit was that those posts were often getting reposted by other bloggers who made it easier for me to generate quality links.
My week was all about; Quora, Web Content, Guest Posting, SBM.
One trick that I want to share, which can help you a lot in generating links; Join Medium Publications. People often think that links from medium are all no-follow, then why to work on it. However, if you publish your work in a popular publication, then you can quickly generate backlinks. Maybe not from those publications directly, but for sure from bloggers who often repost their blogs on their website.
Week #3 & Week #4
I made a 15-day target to do pretty hard work on creating quality content for my website. The goal was to do good posting on Medium Publications, Guest Posts, & Social Bookmarking Websites too.
The division was to create 5 unique posts on each SBM platform with a link to the website’s relevant blog to 2 posts of them. And for the Medium, I targetted to write an 800–1000 word quality post every alternative day for the different publications. And on the other days, I was working on website blogs, SBM, etc.
The total after the end of the week was 5 Medium stories, 2 Blogs on Website, and 50 posts on each SBM website (250 Posts ~ 100 Links).
I saw a significant hike in my DA on the 10th day of that period. It jumped to 16 from 8 just like that in 10 days. I was very much aggressive on content generation, and it gave me pretty good results.
Conclusion Month #2
The initial process of link generation is a bit difficult, but as time goes, more opportunities come in the way. One just needs to be hard-working, Patient, & Strategic to succeed.
Points You Can Learn From My Second Month
- Don’t ever compromise on content for your blog.
- Even if you are writing for other publications on medium, make sure the content quality is not negotiated. As the blog quality signifies how many reposts you can get.
- Don’t over depend on Quora. If you post links continuously on Quora, then it may delete your answers. So, keep a few answers organic and with backlinks to other sites to avoid spam.
- Keep monitoring your webmasters to check if new links discovered or not. Moz may not find links as quickly as the Google Webmaster can.
Target #3: Achieve DA of 25 in The Third Month
The best thing about Off-Page SEO is, it doesn’t stop showing results. Means, if you have posted a guest post or did Off-Page SEO activity on SBM websites, they will keep giving you reshares and referral traffic.
You can see it like you sow a seed by doing Off-Page activities and get fruits lifelong. However, you should keep in mind that keep watering the plant is essential. If not done, then it can make those seed not grow at all.
Week #1 & Week #2
Initially, I hadn’t invested even a single penny on SEO. But to give my efforts a boost, I decided to invest in paid backlinks. So, while working on all other things, I made a strategic budget for buying Paid Backlinks.
To make sure that I get the maximum out of my investment, I decided to buy links in installments. Like I was purchasing one backlink every two days for the whole two weeks. I invested, on average, $25 on each backlink. I tried to maintain to get all quality of backlinks. But most of them were from websites with DA more than 50.
Apart from backlinking, my focus was totally on Content Generation for Medium and my website. I was working on SBM and Quora also simultaneously.
The results were quite satisfying. After the end of Day 15th of the plan, I saw an increase in my DA. It updated to 22. As per my analysis, the reason for the increase was paid links and the natural backlinking of my blogs.
Week #3 & Week #4
I can now see that the goal was not much away, but the thing about DA is that it is based on log calculation. It is easy to get DA to 10 from 0 then 30 from 20.
Following the previous week’s strategy, I decided to buy more backlinks. And this time I considered investing more. But rather than buying just backlinks, I decided to do paid guest posting too. So, I connected with a few of my best bloggers and asked for paid guest posting. Paid guest posting helped me in getting my content posted in priority.
It may cost at least $50 — $100 to get a backlink from a high DA website (DA 60 — DA 70). This was a worthy investment. And apart from that, I invested on an average $30 on buying 10 backlinks. Total investment was this time, $300 + $500 (6 Paid Guest Posting) = $800.
The results were obvious. The DA of my website updated to 26 after the end of the third month.
I although saw even more increase in my backlinks & DA after a month because of the investments.
SEO and Link Generation is no rocket science. One can do it quite easily if the approach and strategies are correct. Although there could be times when you will see no results of your efforts. But you should remember that SEO often takes time to show results.
Patience is Very Important in SEO
*NOTE* If you are targeting to do SEO for free, then you can consider free guest posting too rather than paid ones. However, the only effect it will have is that it will take more time to get results in your SEO.
If you have any other idea for SEO, then do share it in comment.
